Have You Ever Locked Your Forum?

Have any of you webmasters ever got to the stage you've either been tempted, or in fact have actually done it - locked your forum to stop new members (spambots included), from registering and spamming your board?

Yes, i have done it once... In the old days. But now i am wiser and just use more anti spam...

I have had this problem before the advent of all the new smart spam detection software like reCaptcha etc.

This days (with vBulletin anyway) you can easily foil spammers

no nerver benn lucky enough to get a forum really running .... the last time when I started a forum it was just for a small group of people so there was no need to close it
