Linux beginner - where do I start?

go to www.kubuntu.org and download a CD / DVD ISO, burn it and then boot to it.

This will gove you an operating system (it will be slow as its running off the disk and not your hard drive)

There is the option to install from there

KUbuntu is not the ONLY version of Linux. There are 1000s (literally!) so try a few and see which you like but KUbuntu is pretty sound for beginners as is Mandriva and Suse

If you do get into Linux, justremember to help folk when you can. Its a very hippie sort of idea where everyone helps each other

Dude, thats ace. Never been called that before. There are some real Linux users out there who know WAY more than me but no one knows everything.

Give it a go, you may suprise yourself

Hey..
You can even order free shipment of the live CD of Ubuntu to ur mailing address (ur HOME!!!). You can run da CD and try out everything you want before even installing it so that can really be a big help fr a newbie in Linux. That's what i did

For live enviroments theres also puppy and damn small linux and mandriva one

if you go to www.distrowatch.com you can see the vast array of linux distributions. Yes kids there is more than Ubuntu and its sisters! SHOCK!
