Domain is one of the primary attributes of internet. Domain name defines the identity of your site in the web space. But many people stay unaware of all the terms used in the domain name or rather associated with any domain name. This particular piece of article will enlighten you about the different terms involved in any domain name. People might not be aware of these terms at large but they are as important as your domain name. So what specifically these terms are and what they stand for, let’s have a look into that.
    • Appraising: Now the merit of a domain name and its potential is identified. As various domain names fight it out in the web space, the value of a particular domain name is determined. Appraising, as the term suggests, is used to identify the value of any domain name.
    • Country code: Besides Top Level Domains or TLD like .com and .net, various country-specific domains are also present. They are actually used to cater to the user of any specific geographical location. They are also used to distinguish the website out of the crowd. Like .uk is used for United Kingdom, .in is used for India etc.
    • Administrative Contact: This is actually a single nodal point of contact who looks after the domain name and its specification based on the recommendation by the registrant. This is a person who is authorized to make changes or deal with your domain. So it is always advisable to have a trustworthy person in this position.
    • Domain names and disputes: A particular site is identified by the domain name. It is nothing but a name associated with your site. But in many cases it is seen that a single domain name is owned by two different parties and this creates disputes. So it is always advisable to check the registry before registering with your own domain name.
    • Deactivation and Deletion: It may so happen that a particular domain name has served its full lifetime and so it is chucked from the system. In that case the link to that domain name is snapped and deleted. But it may so happen that access to any particular domain name is restricted and it is not available in the zone files. In short it has been deactivated but it can be renewed.
    • Domain server: Now actually a single place holds the record of any particular domain and any trading on that domain is diverted to that particular server. It is generally referred as Domain Name System (DNS). So how is a particular domain identified in a server containing thousands of them? Well with the help of IP address. It is a set of numbers separated by dots, holding the exact address for any particular domain.
    • Parking: A term common with domain names. It is actually registering domain name temporarily till any host accepts it.
    • Propagation: This is actually a process involved with the DNS wherein they accept new domain and delete scrap ones based on few factors. This may take few hours to several days depending upon few factors.
    • Redemption: This situation arises when the registrar deletes the data of the domain from their internal database. This does not make the domain unavailable in the web space but steep fees are required to redeem it.
Renew and Resell: If your domain name has expired, you may renew it based on your requirement. There are many resellers of domain name who resell a particular domain under a registrar.

There are many more terms which comes when domain is taken as Private domain registration, MX records, C name records or A reords.

    Private Domain Registration :
PDR helps you to keep your domain information private and do not allow others to see your domain related information which can be seen on websites like who.is.

    MX records :
These settings are responsible for the emails services, and it is recommended to mx records to the email service providers that you are using the services from with accurate priority or else your emails will not work properly.

    C name or A records :
These settings are responsible for the website to work properly and can be updated in the form of IP addresses.
