Ubuntu is it for linux,

growing very fast.

Sorry I never used it though. Used to use Red Hat when I was in the U.S.

Ubuntu

Ubuntu is a good distro based on Debian, The repositorys are decent and the community is strong. it does not lend itself to power users (from what i've seen) but is a good workhorse

I personally use KUbuntu 7.04 Feisty and it is decent enough for me. I've used Mandriva, Suse, Knoppix and KUbuntu just does the job for me

Just my 2p worth

Peace

Linux free

Just do it. If you just need a rig to browse, chat and word process why do you need 3Gb of bloat?

I'd suggest you download KUbuntu or Knoppix as they run off the CD and wont harm your Hard drive

redhat

Redhat is not too friendly. Automount is a great saviour now :)

Knoppix is cool too

See what you like

I started on RedHat 6.0 but hated it, went to Mandrake and loved it, then Mandriva when the merger occurred. KUbuntu was getting good press so I got it installed and loved it

Just my personal preference. You might hate it

Peace
