becky sharp

Glad you enjoyed it Scorps.....his beautiful writing makes you want to linger and re-read sentences...I must admit I would have liked the ending to have been different ....won't say any more for people who haven't read it.

I'm reading "A Thousand Splendid Suns" by Khaled Hosseint.. Beautiful!!

Strange how nowadays there are so many books about Afghanistan. Is it my imagination or have they all come about since the war?

As light relief after "Atonement" I have just read
"An Offer You Can't Refuse" Jill Mansell.

Chick Lit admittedly, but very funny and quite well written. The sort of thing, that if they put it on TV would be hilarious. Funny dialogue..

"A sweet, funny and romantic novel from the Sunday Times" No. 1 bestseller.Lola has no intention of accepting when her boyfriend Dougie's snobbish mother offers her £10,000 to break up with him. Then she discovers a secret that makes her think again. Dougie would probably have broken up with her in the long run, and this way she can help one of the people she loves most in the world.Ten years later, though, when Lola meets Dougie again, her feelings for him are as strong as ever. But she broke Dougie's heart and he's about to discover that she was paid to do it. She can never tell him the truth, so can she get him back? Well, Lola's very attractive and very persuasive. But even she's got her work cut out this time"

I loved "The Lovely Bones", but isn't it strange that so many of th best books are sad, as well as poems and songs.

Wild Bill

Finished 'The World without us' by Alan Weisman now,and it was very interesting, I'm now reading a book about Black Sabbath,I actually found it in the staffroom at the school where I work,no one seems to know who it belongs to.
Then I've got a book 'Diver' written by a Royal navy diver,it was a 50th birthday present from a friend,'cos I used to dive.

When will I get round to fiction this year?
