Using sitemaps has many benefits, not only easier navigation and better visibility by search engines. Sitemaps offer the opportunity to inform search engines immediately about any changes on your site. Of course, you cannot expect that search engines will rush right away to index your changed pages but certainly the changes will be indexed faster, compared to when you don't have a sitemap.

An XML sitemap creates a hierarchy of your site for bots and search engines to follow. It ensures that the spiders can easily reach all parts of your website and indexes your pages quickly.

Think of it as the roadmap through your site. Make sure you have one of these, it's a very important part of SEO.

There are many SEO tips and tricks that help in optimizing a site but one of those, the importance of which is sometimes underestimated is sitemaps. Sitemaps, as the name implies, are just a map of your site - i.e. on one single page you show the structure of your site, its sections, the links between them, etc. Sitemaps make navigating your site easier and having an updated sitemap on your site is good both for your users and for search engines. Sitemaps are an important way of communication with search engines. While in robots.txt you tell search engines which parts of your site to exclude from indexing, in your site map you tell search engines where you'd like them to go.

Hi friends…
Can anyone suggest me "importance of Sitemap for SEO"?
In general, there are two types of sitemaps. The first type of sitemap is an HTML page listing pages on your site - usually by category - and is used to help users find the information they need.

XML Sitemaps - commonly referred to as Sitemaps, with capital S - are a way for you to provide your site information to Google. This is the type of Sitemap that we will discuss in this article.
In simplest terms, a Sitemap is a list of pages on your site. Creating and submitting Sitemaps helps ensure that Google understands all of the pages on your site, including URLs that may not be discoverable due to normal Google crawling.

Sitemaps are especially useful if:

  1. Your website has dynamic content.
  2. Your site has pages that Googlebot does not easily detect during crawl - for example, rich AJAX or Flash-enabled pages.
  3. Your site is new and has some links to this site. (Googlebot crawls you by tracking links from one page to another, so if your site is not properly linked, it's difficult to track your site.)
  4. Your website contains a large number of content pages that are not linked to each other or are not linked to a page.
  5. You can also use Sitemaps to provide Google with additional information about your pages, including:
The frequency of pages changes on your site. For example, you update your product page every day but update the About me page only once a month.

The date each page was last modified.

The relative importance of pages on your site. For example, your homepage may have a relative importance of 1.0, a category page of importance 0.8, and a personal blog entry or product of magnitude 0.5. This priority only shows the importance of specific URLs in relation to other URLs on your site and does not affect the ranking of your pages in search results.
Sitemaps provide additional information about your site to Google in addition to our regular web crawling methods. We hope they help us collect more data about your site and in a more timely manner, but we can not guarantee that the URLs in your Sitemap will be added only. Google item. Sites are never penalized for submitting Sitemaps.

Google adheres to the Sitemap Protocol 0.9 as determined by The Sitemap protocol is an XML dialect that summarizes Sitemap information related to web crawlers. Therefore, Sitemaps created by Google using the Sitemap Protocol 0.9 are compatible with other search engines that implement the standard.

While Standard Sitemaps work for most websites, you can also create and submit standard Sitemaps for certain types of content. These Sitemap formats are Google-specific and may not be used by other search engines. Sitemap format includes:
  • Video Sitemap
  • Mobile sitemap
  • News Sitemap
  • Site Map Search Code
  • Geo Sitemap

Use RSS / Atom feed as a Sitemap
Google accepts RSS feeds (Extremely Simple Syndication Service 2.0) and Atom 1.0. If you have a blog with an RSS or Atom feed, you can submit the URL of the feed as a Sitemap. Most of the blogging software make you feed the data. If your site does not have a feed, you can use Feedburner to create and publish feeds. Note that feeds can only provide information about recent URLs.

Create a Sitemap based on a text file

Sitemaps should contain a list of your website URLs - up to 50,000 URLs. If you have a large website with more than 50,000 URLs, you should create multiple Sitemaps and submit a Sitemap index file.
You can provide Google with a simple text file that contains one URL per line. Example:
For best results, follow these guidelines:

  • You must specify the full URLs as Google tries to collect data about them exactly as provided.
  • Each text file can contain a maximum of 50,000 URLs. If your site contains more than 50,000 URLs, you can break the list into multiple text files and add individual files.
  • The text file must use UTF-8 encoding. You can specify this code when you save the file (for example, in
  • Notepad, this code is listed in the Encryption menu of the Save As dialog box).
  • The text file should not contain anything other than a list of URLs.
  • The text file should not contain header or footer information.

The XML sitemap is a website map that spoon feeds Google’s bots directions so that they can travel through your site and move efficiently from page to page. Your XML sitemap though, is strictly going to include pages that you want bots to visit.

In Seo, there are two types of sitemaps. Like,

It is used on the website to make the site for user-friendly. it is optional to make. Because some famous and big sites don't feel a need to make HTML sitemaps.
2. XML Sitemap
This is used for search Engine optimization, like Google. It includes all the pages and URLs of the site to make easier for indexing. It is must to make XML sitemap for the new sites.
