Did you ever heard about database schema? A database schema is described in a formal language supported by the database management system. In a relational database, the schema defines the tables, the fields in each table, and the relationships between fields and tables. Schemas are generally stored in a data dictionary. Although a schema is defined in text database language, the term is often used to refer to a graphical depiction of the database structure. Hope this information will be useful for you.

A database schema is the skeleton structure that represents the logical view of the entire database. It defines how the data is organized and how the relations among them are associated. It formulates all the constraints that are to be applied on the data.

A database schema describes its entities and the inter-action among them. It contains a graphic and expressive detail of the database, which can be representing with the help of schema diagrams. A good database designer designs the schema in such a way to help programmers easy understand the database and make it useful.
