Master pages works as a template that you can reference this page in all other content pages. Master pages enable developer to define the look and feel of all the web pages in your website in a single location. If you make some changes perform in master page, then the changes will reflect in all the web pages that reference the master web page.

Master page separate content from templates. You can use master pages along with code-behind in your ASP.NET website. Master pages can be combined with code-behind in the C# language to simplify and ease maintenance of your complex site.
The content pages contains only content. When users request the content page, ASP.NET merges the layout of the master page with the content of the content page and produce output.
