redirection can be done by 301 and 302.
301 is permanent redirect while 302 is temporary redirect.

you can choose according to your needs.

Status 301 means that the resource (page) is moved permanently to a new location. The client/browser should not attempt to request the original location but use the new location from now on.
Status 302 means that the resource is temporarily located somewhere else, and the client/browser should continue requesting the original url.

A redirect is when a web page is visited at a certain URL, it changes to a different URL.
I am using a 301 redirect because some web browsers or proxy servers will cache this type, making the old page inaccessible.

301 is the best way to redirect a webpage. 301 redirect is the most efficient and Search Engine Friendly method for webpage redirection. It's not that hard to implement and it should preserve your search engine rankings for that particular page. If you have to change file names or move pages around, it's the safest option. The code "301" is interpreted as "moved permanently".
